In honor of our Teddy Bear Picnic on Thursday, March 29th!

The Picnic Basket
sung to "Pop! Goes the Weasel"

Put salad, soda, and sandwiches in,
Forks and plates and cups.
Our picnic basket is filled to the top.
But I can't pick it up!

I'll eat some salad and sandwiches, too,
I'll drink some soda pop.
Now my basket's not so full,
And I can pick it up!

Parts of the Body (Hokey Pokey)

Currently Kindergarten is learning about the parts of the body in Science. We are using the Hokey Pokey to help us identify parts in English and Spanish

Hokey Pokey
You put your ___________ in,
You put your ___________in,
You put your _________ in
and you shake it all about.
You do the hokey pokey
 and you turn yourself around
and that’s what it’s all about!

Parts:
Hands (Manos)
Feet (Pies)
Arms (Brazos)
Legs (Piernas)
Head (Cabeza)
Body (Cuerpo)

MATH
We are also studying subtraction. See if your learner can show you a subtraction problem using their toys or a snack. For instance, I have 11 jellybeans. I ate 6 and now I have 5 left. You can also review the opposite as an addition problem. For instance, I have 6 jellybeans and my friend has 5. If we put all the jellybeans together, we have 11.

Please send any of the following figures from home: cylinder (can of soup, oatmeal can), cube (some tissue boxes, a small gift box), sphere (golf ball, tennis ball), rectangular prism (cereal box)

The above are just some suggestions of each, feel free to get creative and send your own examples!
Thank you!

Texas was It's Name-o

In keeping with our upcoming rodeo and Texas themes, we have adapted the BINGO song...

I know a state,
That's big and great,
And Texas is it's name-o
T-E-X-A-S
T-E-X-A-S
T-E-X-A-S
And Texas is it's name-o

We are looking forward to seeing all of our Cowboys and Cowgirls at the Kindergarten Rodeo on March 2!!!

Are you working on your sight words?

We have listed some sight words that you and your little learner can be working on together at home. Can your learner recognize these words, spell these words aloud, and write these words?

I
a
my
me
is
can
see
in
go
on
the
are
you
and
it
said
big
yes
for
look

up
all

These are among the words we have studied together in class and have worked with. Reivew these words with your child and make sure they stay fresh in their mind!
If these words are too easy try talking about extensions of the listed words. For instance, which words could you add -s to? Does it change the word? Will it create a new word? This type of word work is good for growth and development in their reading. You could also try adding -ing or -ed!

Stir a Bowl of Gingerbread

To the tune of Pat-a-cake, Pat-a-cake

Stir a bowl of gingerbread smooth and spicy brown,
Roll it with a rolling pin up and up and down,
With a cookie cutter, make some little men,
And put it in the oven 'til half past ten

Kindergarten used this song during our studies of all these gingerbread man! We examined many different versions of the story and compared their characters, settings, and endings! We used the words in the song to discuss adjectives, nouns and pro-nouns.
